Joyaux lourdement sous-estimés (meaning heavily underestimated jewels) is an autofiction of two men who love one another, tear one another apart, find themselves again, hate each other, make up… Together, they explore diverse types of relationships, from open relationship to chemsex, to platonic relationship and polyamory, in a constant quest for understanding and bonding.
The performance is made up of a polyphonic patchwork of narrations. Sound textures that evoke a journey through everyday banality, with all its drama and trouble. The soundtrack is enhanced by pop classics that invite the audience to plunge into the heart of the characters’ emotions and experiences.
This choreographic piece questions the norms and expectations put on heteronormative couples. By exploring alternatives, Bast Hippocrate suggests a way to free oneself of our idealized image of the couple and find new path towards blossoming and authentic connections.
Bast Hippocrate is a 2nd generation Black Swiss faggot, whose artistic practice is characterized by staging rough and magnetic bodies. Where vulnerability and porosity merge with societal and interpersonal themes. Through his work, he investigates human relationships and how our individual stories intertwine. By incorporating autofiction into his approach, Bast seeks to create connections between the micro and the macro, perhaps enabling audiences to recognize themselves in shared narratives.
After a self-taught start to his career, he graduated from the Manufacture HES-SO Lausanne with a Bachelor’s degree in 2019. His latest creation, “LoveLettersOrNot”, premiered at the Les Urbaines festival, takes a sensitive look at sexual violence within the family.
