EKOS DEM A MOVE : Baddie’s Diasporic Lab is a series of community dance workshops led by Lateena & The Dolls (Lateena Plummer, Romincio Cayol, and Sarah Colombiana).
Rooted in Dancehall (female, queen, queer culture) and Twerk (techniques and ancestry).
Hip isolations to rhythms from the Afro-Caribbean diaspora become a natural source of power and transformation, particularly for racialised, female, and queer bodies. The applied methodology offers both health benefits and artistic diversity, where somatics and aesthetics intertwine—turning these practices into a contemporary and experimental form as well as a form of popular culture.
The proposal seeks to create spaces of empowerment, collective joy, and embodied knowledge-sharing, where QTBIPoC* communities are centered and prioritised, yet open to all. Beyond dance education, the workshops provide a platform for disseminating cultural practices rooted in Black knowledge and essentially pre-colonial traditions, emphasising political bodies as carriers of knowledge. Sessions will follow a vibe-based, horizontal approach to teaching and sharing.
In addition to the workshops, the project includes a special session in collaboration with Asile LGBTIQ+ Geneva and Kauri, international guest appearances by Cuba Mami and Miss Rose, and a podcast series that opens a space for critical dialogue and reflection.
