Collaboration avec le MCBA

performance

  • B Accessible to persons with reduced mobility

Alongside the exhibit Jardin d’Hiver #3. DECORAMA, in collaboration with MCBA, will be an evening of performances. Élie Autin and Elise Lammer present a line-up of artists and musicians working around the question of ornamentation. Which could be both in the formal or conceptual sense. The Swiss plastician Sophie Jung will perform at 6.30 PM at MCBA. The evening will then take place at Arsenic with performances by Alizée Quinche (CH), Ciel Sourdeau (CH) and stelios.exe (FR).

Alizée Quinche, between U and me
between U and me is a sound performance exploring connections between several concepts on current and future biotechnologies. Humans, machines, and bacteria. Thus linked, they now form one single entity: the cyborg. Using the electrical current created by the contact between the human, sixteen bacterial strains and cables, this live performance will take you on a sonic journey. Between appeasing and deafening sounds, sweet and squeaky sounds. Utopian and dystopian sounds.

Ciel Sourdeau, JLG: Jean-Luc Grodard
Arsenic has the distinct honour to welcome Jean-Luc Grodard for a masterclass. A master class without a class master. Not a lesson, a journey. Or a few sensitive thoughts from a man with a camera interacting with movements, speech, space. He talks, he walks, he staggers. And that’s our starting points.

Stelios.exe, Diminutions
This performance experiments with the Renaissance-style ornamentation called “diminution”. A style that through more and more complex variations brings out the purity of the melody, as if all the ornaments were revealing the very essence of the music.
With the use of the Renaissance flute and digital sound design, stelios.exe will bridge the concept of “diminution” to electronical techniques, and several beams of lights will shine through the sonic chaos.

Alizée Quinche (CH, 1999) studied photography and visual communication at the ECAL in Lausanne. Alizée Quinche has explored the various ways in which the medium of photography can be used to express itself: scanning, moving images, photogrammetry, and computer-generated images, opening her practice to the visual arts: performance, installation, and sound work. The artist and photographer develop a body of work centred around questions of relationships, intimacy, and the creative potential of the human organism. Alizée Quinche takes a biotechnological approach to creating new sculptural materials and images.

Ciel Sourdeau is a filmmaker and performer living in Geneva. He develops his drag king art, in part through his character Cristal Couilles. His work bridges filmmaking and performance art, taking its roots in a playful and undisciplined approach, breathing trans masculinity and fantasy movies. Since 2024, he is an associated artist at l’Abri in Geneva.

stelios.exe is a musician and producer living in Marseille. He works on Renaissance music and hyperpop. Two genres birthed within 3 centuries of one another, but both based on highly expressive melodies. The Renaissance counterpoint, a compositional technique that develops several parallel melodies mirrors the maximalist approach of hyperpop. A pop genre where codes and effects are exaggerated to their extreme.
The Renaissance flute and the voice come out of a radical electronical sound design, like a ray of light through a distorting stained-glass window, where well-known elements are distorted and altered.
The musician aims to create a deconstructive motion. He looks to break down barriers between genres and merge popular influences with practices understood as the practices of the elites.
