Selected for the Sundance and the Venice Film Festivals and winner of two awards at the Festival du nouveau cinéma in Montreal, Gilles Jobin’s virtual reality piece has toured the world since its premiere at the end of 2017. VR_I is a piece in which the audience is immersed together and in real time in a 100% digital space. Although the environment is fictional – perceived by the audience thanks to a special helmet – the movements of the audience and the dancers are transcribed completely realistically thanks to motion capture technology. Through this unique apparatus, which leaves the spectator’s gaze free, Gilles Jobin and Artanim extend our perception of reality by immersing us in new, unexplored, unprecedented and dizzying territories.
