In the manner of Buster Keaton or Charlie Chaplin, Marie-Caroline Hominal and David Hominal turn a series of burlesque gags into a performance.
Crude and direct, Hominal vs Hominal makes use of an effective physicality, in which the body is a tool – a work tool, a tool for action, a tool for deconstruction. An approach reminiscent of Yvonne Rainer’s No Manifesto, which argues for a form of dance reduced to its very essence.
In keeping with their previous creations, absurdity, repetition and gesture in space, whether in painting or in dance, lie at the heart of their research. By assembling and merging the performers’ respective practices, Hominal vs Hominal intends to find a form that is dynamic and common to both. Havoc, failure and damnation will be at the heart of the piece: upside down, multiplied by two, saying the same thing twice, in a double solo or a solo duet, make of it what you will!
