What happens in the black box when the audience has disappeared? The stage overflows with giant meringues, the scenography takes over the seating area, blows up the boundaries of the theatre and becomes a protean cave, sheltered from reality.
As usual, Le Zerep presents a theatre of pirates, rebels and troublemakers. If you’re looking for good taste and good manners, you won’t find them here: Sophie Perez and her companions make a habit of shamelessly eschewing them. Pair this with unlimited silliness, a few burlesque outrages and some much-loved idiocy, and you will soon have the ingredients for La Meringue du souterrain.
In this aesthetic farce, beauty is not afraid to rub shoulders with the unspeakable: featuring for example a theatrical quiz, psychic and tribal dances, philosophical-existential ballads on the subject of relationships and inspiration – and let’s not forget the presence of Pinocchio, Lon Chaney, DJ Bugiardo, Inspector Roger, and even Delphine Seyrig, among others…
Meanwhile, a woman seems to be waiting on stage – but what exactly is she waiting for?
