In an intimate setting, the audience is invited to witness a monologue born from an autobiographical and fictional tale. It’s through words and with a burning fire that questions of identity are discussed, through the artist’s prism of her Swiss and Algerian backgrounds. Oriane Emery brings us on a rocky road, touching on strains and contradictions of a mixed-race background. This work is an homage to the writers who inspire and nourish her: Louisa Yousfi, Fatima Daas, Sophie Alfieri, amongst many others. Through writing, the artist found a way to weave her voice and theirs.
Loved in the in-between of this weaving, emerges Oriane Emery’s work and her reflections on identities. How do the family memories that inform identities also influence political and societal attitudes?
Oriane Emery gradutated with Bachelor of Fine Arts from the ECAL, followed by a Master of Visual Arts in June 2024 from the same school. She also received pre-professional theatre training from Evaprod (La Chaux-de-Fonds). By taking an interest in our way of communicating, she sheds light on their violence thinking through our intimate and collective memories. Her ten years of experience in the world of theatre have enabled her to learn both acting and writing. Skills that remain an integral part of her work, particularly in her performances. She attaches great importance to the use of space, its status and the relationship it has with the body. At the same time, she continues to write. Her writing is somewhere between a diary and automatic, on-the-spot writing.
