At birth you are a promise but at the same time also the greatest possible risk
Renée van Trier, a transdisciplinary artist, highlights the discrepancies between reality and appearances to address what we’d rather conceal from the outside world.
Inspired by Tik Tok and Instagram, Renée van Trier seeks to portray a masked vulnerability in an age where nothing is as it seems.
By exploring the darker side of humans and their own image in a visual universe at first glance light-hearted and innocent, she also questions our attraction to certain types of content and what lies behind them. She uses, among other things, the figure of the dolphin who initially seems friendly, but turns out to be particularly dangerous and perverse.
Maintaining the unease of this tragicomedy, Renée van Trier confronts us with our complex use of digital media and invites us to look behind our armour. Are we still authentic and capable of genuine human interaction? Can we still face the problems of the real-world?
