Crafted as a musical stage poem, Prélude et fin interweaves personal experience, philosophy, art history and psychoanalysis, in the same vein as the company’s other work. The musical prelude is what comes before the work begins, like an impulse to set the tone. Thus begins a form of inner pilgrimage between point A and point B, between life and death with, somewhere at the heart of this journey, the search for a place of tranquillity where comfort and consolation can be found.
Partly devised and written in a state of hypnosis, Prélude et fin is halfway between Greek tragedy and modern group therapy… Valerio Scamuffa thus proposes a theatrical journey through our instinctive world, the duality of which is explored in five tableaux, in five acts.
In a back and forth between reality and our fantasy world, with eyes wide open in the darkness of our intimacy, Prélude et fin asks what encourages us to preserve life, and what, on the contrary, pushes us to destroy it?
